Welcome

Welcome to the Alberta Clydesdale and Shire Association!

The Alberta Clydesdale Association was founded in the early 1920’s.  Records show that even then the Association’s main objective was to breed a better quality draft horse.   Importing Clydesdale stallions from Scotland seemed to be the answer to acquire the much desired characteristics that were sought after by the breeders here in Canada.  Whether you sit in the stands or walk though the barns, you will always meet someone from Scotland who has come to watch the progeny of their champion stallions perform at heavy horse shows across North America.

Following a period of near extinction for more than forty years prior, the Alberta Shire Association was formed in 1999.   Alberta Shire breeders are also devoted to improving the quality of their horses.   With conformation foremost in mind, Shire stallions were imported from England even before the Association was formed.   The number of Shires in Alberta is steadily increasing as the breeders endeavor to produce a superb draft horse.

In 2006 the Clydesdale and Shire associations joined forces and became one.  The Alberta Clydesdale and Shire Association was formed.   Alberta Clydesdale and Shire breeders strive to produce top quality purebred draft horses.  Our goal is to continue to breed World Champion Clydesdales and Shires in Alberta for many generations to come.

The Alberta Clydesdale and Shire Association is a non profit organization that continues to support and promote Alberta shows and events.
