By Jodi Graham and Hannah LeClaire
2007-2008When our club started up with our reorganization meeting on November 3rd at the Trican building in Red Deer, most of us didn’t really know each other. It took us a few weeks before we knew everybody in the club.
At our reorganization meeting we decided who was going to be our president, vice president, treasury, secretary, reporter/historian, social committee, parliamentarian and our regional council rep. Our president was Jessica Veenstra, vice president- Sara Hunder, treasurer- Colton Roy, secretary- Amy LeClaire, reporter/historian- Jodi Graham and Hannah LeClaire and finally we have our social committee- Reece Topping. Our leaders are Keven Graham and Tanya Godwin.
On December 1st is when we had our second meeting in the same building as before, the Trican building in Red Deer. The meeting was called to order at 7:06. We talked about a name and clothing for our club as well as some dates such as public speaking and when our next meeting will be. The meeting was adjourned at 7:59.
January 12th the meeting was called to order at 6:53. In this meeting we set a date for public speaking. The date for public speaking was Saturday, January 26 at 12:00 in the Trican building. We had a workshop with our horses that was about decorating and showmanship.
February 2nd at Brian and Colleen Coleman’s house we called the meeting to order at 11:35. We talked about the area speak off, which was on February 28th in Carstairs. We needed to decide on a banner for 4-H on Parade so everyone was asked to design their own picture and bring it to the next meeting. 12:20 is when our meeting was adjourned.
On March 1st at the Beelby farm, our vice president called the meeting to order at 2:25 pm. For our role call all members were asked to pick a question from an envelope and answer it. Tammy Pelonero and Don Swanston were our judges for 4-H on Parade.
We discussed new shirts and hoodies but we decided to get club hoodies and keep the old shirts. Keven Graham spoke about 4-H on Parade rules. Club didn’t do highway clean-up, so instead we all went to a draft horse field day. Our next meeting was at the LeClaire’s on April 5th, at 1:00 pm. The meeting was adjourned at 4:21 pm.
The meeting at the LeClaire farm was called to order by our president at 1:30 pm. the Eagle Hill 4-H Beef Club generously donated $200.00 to the club. At this meeting we tried on hoodies for 4-H on Parade. Percheron Field Day was on June 7th at the Stanton farm. It was suggested that we get all of our yearlings together at Hunder’s at 11:00 am on April 20th, for a showmanship clinic. The meeting was adjourned at 2:47.
The May 17th meeting was called to order at 11:38 pm. Our achievement day was to be on August 7th, the day before Olds Fair. We did battery, tire, and electronics recycling to raise money for our club. The meeting was adjourned at 12:41 pm.
4-H on parade was in Calgary from May 30th to June 1st. It was our first time at 4-H on parade so we didn’t choose a stall theme. We participated in conformation, decorating and showmanship. Most of the clubs families went to the Calgary Stampede so we had a short meeting. On Aug.7th we had our achievement day. Some of our classes that we entered in were showmanship, conformation, decorating, best trained and judging. Lots of our club stayed for the Olds Fair with their families. The whole year was really fun and it all paid off at the very end of the year.
At the Hunder farm, on Sep.6th, our club had its awards banquet. Members and their families enjoyed a potluck supper; afterwards the members thanked the parents and leaders for their help during the year. The awards were presented to the members by our leaders followed by everyone doing what they would like to do including pasture tour, bare back riding, playing tag on the bales and a bonfire.
